The History of Craps

The recorded history of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game called Hazard, which goes all the way back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Early 1800's. Hazard is thought to be a byproduct of Azzahr, meaning 'the die' a game enjoyed by Arabs.

The game developed as it spread out from the Arab territories to Europe and then England. By the early 1700s, formal game rules for Hazard had been developed. France started playing the English version of Hazard and is assumed to have been imported to the us by early French colonizers. In the mid-1700s, when the English beat the French in British North America, the French colonists migrated to Louisiana. Dice were played on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a streamlined 'US' version of Craps was created. The game moved west and is a well-known game that is played all over the United States and throughout the planet.

The name 'Craps' is theorized to be a French pronunciation of the term crabs, which alludes to two '1s'. There are 2 basic kinds of Craps that are gambled on-street Craps and bank Craps. Street caps, accurately named since it is played on the streets is where a shooter sets a point and then attempts to acquire that point. The wagering is made either with or against the shooter and another player must cover the bet in order for the craps game to continue.

In bank Craps, which is the accepted game, competed in in betting houses, the betting house funds the casino game. The gamblers play with the casino-the casino covers all of the wagers of all of the individuals. Craps once was a quite well-liked casino game but in the past 20 years had divided itself and different games, such as poker and blackjack became even more popular. However, Craps is seeing a come back in recognition once again in internet betting houses and in brink and mortar betting houses.
